A three-hour lockdown ended at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury after the campus was declared to be safe following a report of a man with a gun in the Visual & Performing Arts Center.
The declaration came after a search by police officers and a SWAT team.
Students no longer needed to shelter in place, but police are continuing to investigate the campus, WCSU said just after 5 p.m.
Classes were canceled for the rest of the day.

A report of a man with a gun in the Visual & Performing Arts Center has prompted a lockdown at Western Connecticut State University in Danbury Tuesday afternoon.
Police officers and a Danbury PD SWAT team are searching the building for the man. There is a shelter in place order is in effect.
The call to police reportedly came in at around 2 p.m. Nov. 20 from a female student who said she saw a man with what appeared to be with a rifle.
There have been no reports of shots fired or injuries.
Lake Avenue is closed to the VPA building.
